24 May Finding Ourselves and Losing Ourselves, a talk with Dr. Stephen Fulder
What is beyond mindfulness and how can it enrich our lives? Stephen Fulder explores this topic and much more in his recent talk at Mangalam Center. Fulder is the founder and senior teacher of Tovana (the Israel Insight Society), an organization that teaches Buddhist meditative practices. Currently on tour with his book, What’s Beyond Mindfulness: Waking Up to This Precious Life, Fulder inspires us to examine the way we view our surroundings. He encourages us to break down the illusion that we are separate from the world around us. When discussing spirituality, Fulder describes it as a merging with the universe. This understanding allows us to see how we are more than detached beings walking on the earth’s surface. We are actually a fusion of it all, made up of the same elements around us. As Fulder hones in on the self, he examines our tendency to try and control this uncontrollable life and explains what exactly we need to do to bring clarity and awareness to what is going on within us and around us. Fulder’s talk included a calming guided meditation to bring us present, thought-provoking questions, and excerpts from his highly praised book.
